Lifted Chevy Trucks
Chevrolet started building trucks in nineteen eighteen. The co- founder of Chevrolet, Willy Durant wanted a
pickup truck made to compete against Ford Motor Company. Chevrolet has been chasing Ford for many years now and is
now in the number two spot when it comes to trucks.
Lifted Chevy trucks that have lift kits applied to them are done after the truck is built and sold. Then one
takes the Chevy truck and adds either the suspension or the body to lift the truck up higher than the original
plan. The wheel wells are higher, this allows for bigger tires that will be installed. Some of the newer trucks
already come with a moderate lift kits already installed. But most want to get lift kits that are the highest made.
There are two types of lift kits, suspension lifts and body lifts. Both have good advantages while others have some
disadvantages.
Lifted Chevy trucks can have a lift kit that lifts only the body. It can lift it up to three inches, only
lifting the body itself. It does not increase ground clearance, although it may allow for taller tires as it will
increase the height of the wheel wells. Extra money will be spent if one wants to raise the bumpers or just
extending the gearshift through the floor board. The body lift kit may raise the truck to sit higher, it will not
alter or improve the suspension or increase travel. Many off roaders do not like the body lift kit.
The suspension lift kit for lifted Chevy trucks will raise the suspension of the truck. It replaces the front
and rear leaf springs and shocks. This will allow one to put on higher tires and improves the clearance between the
axles and the ground. The suspension lift kit for the lifted Chevy trucks is a lot more expensive than the body
lift kits. One must also install the steering stabilizers to get better steering geometry.
Lifted Chevy trucks look odd by anyone’s standards. Extreme lifts such as eighteen inches high will compromise
the safe handling of the truck. It can cause more problems than it is worth. But there are people that like to be
up high, real high. When considering lifted Chevy trucks, remember the lift over four inches, is about the
safest height. Anything over that will cause the perfect center of gravity and can cause rollovers when making
sharp turns at high speeds.
Some want those big tractor tires on their lifted Chevy trucks but one must remember the safety factor involved.
Some will get the tires about two sizes larger than the ones already on the truck. The odometer and speedometer
will be affected if you do not re-gear the rear end. Re-gearing will keep the mileage as close to the stock as
possible. If you go up maybe just one size, re-gearing might not be necessary.
The lift kits on the lifted Chevy truck can be self installed with all the proper tools. One must have the skill
to do so, such as a mechanic. When installing these lift kits, be careful as it might void the manufactures
warranty.
